Our day begins with a proper greeting of one another and some time to orient our day toward God, the Source of knowledge (Proverbs 2:6).  Here, we cover our hymn, Scripture, prayer, and we use this time of assembly to learn current events, citizenship, folk songs, and perform recitations of poetry.

mathematics

We spend one hour each day practicing mathematics.   In the lower forms, this time is for hands-on math lessons involving manipulatives.  In the upper forms, we take a weekly timed test and review missed concepts. We keep a log of each child's progress so that you are kept accountable to stay on track at home.

science and Nature study

We spend some of our class time in reading aloud and composing good narrations on multiple classic works of literature, history, science, citizenship, and other subjects.  The energy that the students bring to one another is encouraging and sharpening, as each child brings different strengths to the group.

science and Nature study

One major stand-out in a Charlotte Mason education is the priority we place on nature observation and recording.  Your child will spend some time outside each week developing the powers of observation to understand the natural world first hand.  Older students will spend some time in the chemistry, biology, and physics lab appropriate to their year of study.

By way of review of each previous week of readings and compositions, the students will participate in presentation, discussion, and enrichment projects.   A proper and normative education provides an opportunity to become a good orater and communicator on points that the student cares about and uses to edify an audience.

The study of Latin brings grammar to life, and the exposure to other foreign languages in our school brings cultural studies and geography to life as well.  The expansion of the mind, attention to translation strategies, and the living use of vocabulary are some of the great benefits of language study.
